Peanuts make for a great on the go snack or a healthy snack for at the ball game or the cinema. Next time you eat a peanut, there is more to be gained from them than just great taste. Peanuts make a great addition to our healthy snacks page and for good reason. Here we shall take a look at the health benefits of peanuts.

Heart health, there are many people throughout the world who see the word fat on the packaging of food and steer clear of it. What many of these people do not know is that there are healthy fats out there which the body needs, such as monounsaturated fats. Peanuts are very rich in healthy fat, folate, protein, and vitamin E, all of these are great for promoting a strong and healthy heart. One of the biggest benefits of the biggest things to be obtained from peanuts to help the heart is antioxidants; these are the key to protecting the heart.

Anti-cancer properties, studies have found that many of the nutrients within peanuts such as, folic acid, phytic acid phytosterol acid and reseratol, can all work together to protect the body from various forms of cancer. Research carried out in Taiwan found that peanuts can specifically lower the risks of colon cancer.

Reducing stroke risk, it is yet to be fully proven but some researchers suggest that peanuts can actually lower the risk of strokes. Peanuts contain good amounts of resveratrol; this is a flavonoid which has been known to significantly reduce the chances of strokes in different species of animals. Resveratrol is a common ingredient which is found in many different types of wine and doctors do say this is what makes for a healthy stronger heart. Even though it is not fully proven to work for humans, it works for animals so why should it not work for us?

Reduce the chances of fatty weight gain, studies have found that people who eat peanuts or any nuts for that matter at least twice a week, are a lot less likely to gain weight compared to those who do not. The reason for this is that the healthy fats which are present in peanuts are digested much slower, which in turn allows them to remain in the stomach for longer helping the stomach to remain feeling fuller for a longer period of time.
