Bad breath, or halitosis is something that can happen to anyone. It’s said that 1 in 4 of us are thought to have bad breath on a regular basis. So what causes bad breath?
Bad breath can be caused from a lack of oral hygiene, if you don’t brush your teeth regularly the bacteria in your mouth has the opportunity to feed and breed. A byproduct of the bacteria are toxins that can smell unpleasant. Other causes of bad breath are gum disease and strong smelling foods such as onions, garlic, alcohol and cigarettes. Sometimes you may get bad breath after becoming ill or whilst taking certain medication.
The best way to tackle bad breath is of course to look after your oral hygiene more. For best results, brush and floss twice a day whilst making sure that you brush your tongue as well. Using extra minty tooth paste, chewing gum and eating mints will help to keep your breath minty fresh.
If you still have bad breath despite all of this, I would strongly recommend you visit your dentist and seek medical advice. There are certain foods to battle bad breath, foods such as: Fennel, green tea and rosemary. Green tea is a good one to have first thing in the morning before you brush your teeth. I myself, wake up and have breakfast first, then proceed to brush after the meal is over. If you have really bad morning breath, green tea will get rid of that whilst not affecting the taste of your breakfast.
